HUNGARIAN OPENING- BIRATI CHESS ACADEMY-9836614608

HUNGARIAN OPENING- Birati chess Academy-9836614608

The Hungarian Opening is a semi-unusual chess opening which begins with the move 1. g3

Compared to white’s four “main” opening moves (1. e4, 1. d4, 1. c4, and 1. Nf3), the Hungarian Opening lags far behind in popularity. That said, this opening is fully viable – even some professional-level chess games have featured the Hungarian Opening!

By playing g3 on move one, white indicates his intention to fianchetto the light-squared bishop. Black has several reasonable responses, including 1…c5, 1…e5, 1…d5, 1…Nf6, and 1…g6.

This is the real downside of the Hungarian Opening – black’s options aren’t limited at all! Black will be free to develop in almost any way he pleases.

There are very few “original” setups that are unique to the Hungarian Opening. The game will almost always “tranpose” to a setup that is better associated with another first move from white!

For example, after 1. g3 d5 2. Nf3 c5 3. Bg2 Nc6 4. 0-0 e5 5. d3:

Englund Gambit Trap- Birati Chess Academy

Englund Gambit Trap- Birati Chess Academy

Englund Gambit Trap

This trap starts out with the Englund Gambit which is 1. d4 e5. This is not a recommended opening for black but something that you might see if you start with d4 and very important to understand how to move forward.

The Englund Gambit Trap is an ambitious attempt by black to lure white into making rational, but dangerous moves. Black will give up the e pawn early on and then bring out his queen for a quick attack on the queen side of the board. The critical move comes after black takes with 5…Qxb2.

1. d4 e5
2. dxe5 Nc6
3. Nf3 Qe7
4. Bf4 Qb4+
5. Bd2 Qxb2

In this spot white may be tempted to play Bc3 and attack the queen but the better move is to play Nc3.

Alekhine Defense: How to Play as White and Black

Alekhine Defense: How to Play as White and Black

Alekhine’s Defense Fundamentals

We enter Alekhine’s Defense after the opening moves 1.e4 Nf6.

Alekhine's Defense starting position is reached after 1.e4 Nf6

There is no advantage for White in avoiding 2.e5. Of all the main alternatives 2.Nc3 is White’s best choice with a possible transposition to the Vienna Game after 2…e5 or the Alekhine’s Defense Scandinavian Variation after 2…d5.

Ponziani Opening - Birati Chess Academy

Ponziani Opening - Birati Chess Academy

It is one of the oldest chess openings, having been discussed in the literature by 1497.

1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. c3

It is one of the oldest chess openings, having been discussed in the literature by 1497.

Ponziani's countergambit 3...f5!? was successfully played in the grandmaster game Hikaru Nakamura–Julio Becerra Rivero, US Championship 2007.

The Ponziani is a strong opening to use at club play and a suprise weapon to use at master level. If played correctly black can create a sharp opening with attacking chances for both sides. However black must tread carefully, playing naturally can lead to a variety of devastating traps.

Today, it is usually known by the name of Domenico Lorenzo Ponziani, whose main contribution to the opening was his introduction, in 1769

The Richter–Veresov Attack - Birati Chess Academy

The Richter–Veresov Attack (or Veresov Opening) is a chess opening that begins with the moves:

1. d4 d5
2. Nc3 Nf6
3. Bg5

It is also often reached by transposition, for example 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nc3 d5 3.Bg5 (the most common move order), 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5 d5 3.Nc3, or 1.Nc3 Nf6 2.d4 d5 3.Bg5.

The opening was named after the German International Master Kurt Richter and later the Soviet master Gavriil Veresov, who played it frequently for over a quarter of a century.

Along with the Trompowsky Attack, Colle System, London System, and Torre Attack, the Richter–Veresov Attack is one of the more common branches of the Queen's Pawn Game. The more popular Ruy Lopez opening looks like a Richter–Veresov Attack mirrored on the queenside, but the dynamics of play are quite different.
